By NEWS STAFF The Pottawatomie County Advocates for Voter Education (PAVE) Senate Dist. 17 forum is scheduled for Monday, May 6. The forum will be held at Shawnee City Hall at 7 p.m.

Incumbent Shane Jett and candidates Rachael Melot, Ron Sharp, and Cody Swearingen agreed to participate.

On May 13, candidates for Shawnee Mayor and the Shawnee City Commission will have their opportunity to answer questions. As of press time, it was reported that all candidates except for Eric Stephens and Theresa Cody had agreed to participate.

The forum for candidates for county offices is on May 23.

During each forum, candidates will make brief opening and closing statements and answer written questions submitted by the audience, which will be screened for relevance and duplication. Those planning to attend are encouraged to write out their questions in advance to help include as many questions as possible, although cards will be available at the forum so that questions can be written there.

The forums will be broadcast and recorded on the City of Shawnee website.

Those unable to attend may submit questions by email at pottco. pave@gmail.com. Indicate the candidate and the race. Questions must relate to the position the candidate is seeking and will be screened for appropriateness. Duplicate questions may be combined.

PAVE is a nonpartisan group of volunteers that began as a League of Women Voters chapter. New members are always welcome; to join, go to the group’s Facebook page.

The forum is open to the public at no charge.
