By NEWS STAFF The Pottawatomie County Advocates for Voter Education (PAVE) Senate Dist. 17 forum is scheduled for Monday, May 6. The forum will be held at Shawnee City Hall at 7 p.m.

Champions Against Sexual Assault Honored

At the Sexual Assault Awareness Award event, Project SAFE recognized six individuals who have been instrumental in supporting and advocating for victims of sexual assault. The recipients included law enforcement officials, advocates, and other professionals who work tirelessly to guide victims through the most difficult times of their lives. The awards ceremony took place on Friday, April 25, where each honoree was recognized for their dedication, empathy, and compassion towards victims.

A Look Back At A Teaching Career That Began at New Hope School

In 1961, Donald Rominger, Jr. was 21 years old and just venturing out on his teaching career. He was a 1958 Tecumseh graduate who had completed his studies at Oklahoma Baptist University in three years. Everything was new to him at New Hope School, which stood at the corner of New Hope Road and Gaddy Road, west of Tecumseh, until Jan. 11 of this year.

City Of McLoud Votes For Inquiries, Investigations

The McLoud City Council voted unanimously on Thursday, April 25, to authorize City Attorney Mat Thomas to inquire into and investigate the City Manager’s offi ce when Buck Day was the City Manager. Mayor Daniel McClure said that initially, a subcommittee comprised of Councilmen Larry Dillenger and Phil Solinger conducted an investigation, which was then submitted to the State Auditor’s Office.

Shawnee Awards Building Bonds

Following the approval of the two Shawnee Public Schools Propositions on April 2, a bond sale was held during a special session of the Shawnee Board of Education on April 29. The bond sale was the first piece of Proposition #2, which repurposes the remaining funds from the 2016 bond election that would have gone toward a new elementary school and will now go toward improving the five existing schools.
