Lady Wildcats Win Regionals, Advance To Area

Bethel’s Lady Wildcats are heading to their Area Tournament after winning both their regional matches on opposite sides of the weekend.

Saturday, Feb. 26, the Lady Wildcats faced off against Davis, in the opening round of regionals.

Launching in headfirst, Bethel netted 26 points in their first quarter to Davis’ 9. The Wildcats pulled up a little in the second quarter, with 14 points, but held Davis to another 9 points, and headed into halftime with a 22-point lead, 40-18.

The Lady Wolves bounced back in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Wildcats 11-9, and holding them to single digit scoring per quarter.

In the final quarter both teams were neck and neck, with 9 points each, but the Wolves’ second half wasn’t strong enough to overcome the lead that the Lady Wildcats had earned in the first half.

Bethel brought home the win, 58-38.

Josie Megehee led the scoring with 289 points, followed by Parker Stevenson with 19. Lilly Megehee netted 4, while Hannah Davidson and Baylee Tapley each earned 3 points.

For Davis, Logan Pruitt led her team in scoring with 14 points, Chloe Summers scored 12, Kensley Barnes 9, and Jacie LaNoy 3.

The Lady Wildcats’ second game of regionals wasn’t until the following Monday, March 1, facing off against Prague on the Red Devils’ home court.

Despite Prague’s home game advantage, Bethel led from the first quarter onward, sailing smoothly to a 62-28 victory.

Bethel dominated the first quarter, scoring 15 to Prague’s 2. The Lady Red Devils’ rallied to net 7 points in the second quarter, but Bethel remained on top with 13, taking into the second half with a 28-9 lead.

In the third quarter, the Lady Wildcats netted 21 to Prague’s 11, before coasting to the win with a 13-8 fourth quarter.

The final score of 62-28 secured Bethel’s place in the upcoming Area Tournament.

Parker Stevenson and Josie Megehee swapped places on the scoreboard from the last game, as Stevensons led with 19 points, while J. Megehee claimed 16.

Brooklyn Duff followed with 7, Hannah Davidson with 6, Baylee Tapley 5 Kassidy Depuy and Annie Compton both netted 4 points and Lilly Megehee scored 1.

The Lady Wildcats will head into Areas this week with a 21-3 season record.
